The Front Camera May Get a Big Move in This Year’s iPhone 18 Pro
There’s already a strong consensus among leakers that the iPhone 18 Pro lineup will move the Face ID sensors under the display, although nobody is quite sure exactly what this will mean for the Dynamic Island. Now, a long-time and somewhat dubious leaker is weighing in with one of the more unusual predictions we’ve heard, suggesting that Apple will move the camera cutout to the top-left corner.
This latest report comes from Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech, who we haven’t heard much from since Apple sued him last summer over leaking iOS 26 information. While Prosser has had something of a mixed track record in recent years — and has made some predictions in the past that were borderline insane — his information on the new iOS 26 Liquid Glass design turned out to be quite prescient.
Now, Prosser is suggesting that Apple’s plan to move the Face ID sensors under the glass of the iPhone 18 Pro will result in the Dynamic Island being replaced with a more circular hole-punch cutout to accommodate the camera, which Apple isn’t ready to place under the screen just yet.
That aligns with other predictions we’ve heard, and also seems reasonable since the larger pill-shaped cutout only exists today to make room for the dot projector and other Face ID sensors. If those can be reliably placed under the display — and nearly every reliable source believes this is the year that’s going to happen — then a larger hole is just a needless waste of screen real estate.
However, Prosser goes one step further. He believes that Apple won’t just shrink the Dynamic Island down to a hole, but that the company will actually move it to one side, placing the camera in the top-left corner. He illustrates this in his YouTube video, although he also suggests that Apple isn’t about to ditch the Dynamic Island user experience.
It’s unclear how much of this is based on insider information and how much is speculation, but the renders in Prosser’s video show the Dynamic Island expanding out to the right of the camera cutout. There’s a certain logic to that, as it would allow Apple to make better use of the space, rather than having to show information straddling a hole in the center. Again, though, Prosser doesn’t say where or how he got this information, so it may be little more than an educated guess.
It’s worth noting that much of the other information Prosser shares in his video is stuff we’ve heard before, so once again we don’t know whether to take it as confirmation from Prosser’s own sources of if he’s just recapping other rumors. For example, he mentions the new coffee, purple, and burgundy colors that were leaked in October, calling “coffee” brown, and mentioning that he believes burgundy will be “the new signature color.” While the original leak implied that Apple could launch this year’s pro model in multiple colors, more recent reports have suggested it’s merely testing all three to pick the best one of the bunch.
Prosser also mentions the variable aperture cameras we’ve been hearing about for a while — although he suggests it might be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro Max — and the simplified non-capacitive Camera Control we heard about in August — along with a few other things that are just plain obvious, like an A20 Pro chip and a C2 modem. He also suggests the iPhone 18 Pro will get full 5G satellite internet, which we know is coming eventually, but not necessarily this year.
