One Planned iPhone 16 Feature We Can’t Wait For

While it’s still too early to know which rumors are true, there are some that pique our interest — and one of them is one we can’t wait to try ourselves.
We’re talking, of course, about the on-device artificial intelligence Apple is supposedly working on. If true, this technology will change the way we use our iPhones forever. Here’s everything you need to know.

Apple Is Working on Artificial Intelligence
One of the biggest rumors of 2023 has been about Apple’s work on AI. If the rumors are correct, Apple wants to change the way we use Siri.
While Apple’s virtual assistant is great, we can all agree that it’s still a bit “dumb.” Unfortunately, Siri doesn’t work as well as we would like, but the good news is that this might change in 2024.
According to popular leaker Revegnus on X (formerly known as Twitter), Apple is working on Large Language Models that could “completely revamp Siri into the ultimate virtual assistant.”
If this is true, Siri, as we know it, might completely change in 2024. In case you don’t know, Large Language Models (LLMs), are algorithms that can learn, recognize, and create text.
This is the type of stuff that artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT are built on.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Apple is working on LLM, but it seems the company is focusing on AI to make its virtual assistant even better than before.
How Would On-Device AI on the iPhone Work?
As we mentioned, Siri is pretty limited when it comes to what it can do. Sure, Siri is great if you want a simple answer or task done, but if you want something even slightly more complex, Siri will just shrug and say it can’t do it.
With an AI-powered Siri, you can expect this to change drastically. In theory, Siri would be able to answer any question you have. Not only that, but it would also be able to do more specific and complex tasks. For example, instead of just asking Siri to open the Mail app and dictate a specific message, you could ask Siri to write a professional email for you asking for a raise.
Additionally, Siri could potentially learn from the way you use your iPhone. So, instead of just offering to use a specific app like Pages, it would help you write your essay or your journal entry in a matter of seconds.
And the fact that all of this would happen inside your iPhone means you won’t experience any delays every time you try to use it.
Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg; we’ll need to wait and see how Apple takes advantage of this technology — if and when it comes out.
When Will Apple Start Using AI?
If rumors are accurate, we might see the first-ever Apple AI as soon as 2024. In fact, we might even get a glimpse of what it might look like during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which should happen in June 2024.
However, we probably won’t see it released to the public until September 2024, which is when Apple usually launches the new iPhone and annual iOS release.
Speaking of the new iPhone, it’s likely that on-device AI could be exclusive to the iPhone 16. The reason is that the 2024 iPhone lineup may be the only one with the hardware capable of handling on-device prompts if that’s the route Apple ends up going.
So, unfortunately, all of us with older iPhones won’t be able to make the most out of this new feature. Hopefully, we’re wrong, but we’ll still have to wait and see.
Apple Isn’t the Only One Focusing on AI
Apple is just one of many tech companies that have shifted their focus to artificial intelligence. Not only is it incredibly popular right now, but the potential it has to help users is out of this world.
Other companies like Google and Samsung are already working on their own AI-powered assistants. What gets us excited is that while Apple isn’t often the first, it always tries to be the best. Having an AI-powered Siri that works flawlessly with the Apple ecosystem might be exactly that “one more thing” Apple fans have been asking for.
AI Is Coming to the Apple Ecosystem
Even though you should take all rumors with a grain of salt, the idea of having a more intelligent Siri is exciting, and it makes you think of the possibilities.
The iPhone might not even be the only product with on-device AI; we might even see the first traces of artificial intelligence in the Apple Vision Pro once it launches in the next few weeks.
One thing is for sure: AI is here to stay and tech companies are getting ready to make it better and easier for their customers to make use of.
