Harry Potter Wizard’s Chess is real and it’s truly magical
If you’re partial to a few pints of butterbeer and always up for a drunken game of Wizard’s Chess, then listen up!
Chess just got even smarter, with Wizard’s Chess now actually a thing in the muggle world, and the normal game will never be the same again.
Square Off involves a self-moving chess board similar to the enchanted game Ron Weasley loves so much in Harry Potter.
It’s part of a new Kickstarter campaign that’s designed to allow people to play chess on a physical board remotely with each other via a smartphone, or against a computer. The board works with magnets and motors that can move pieces around by remote command.
It also has a live streaming mode that lets you tune into any match around the globe, which can be recorded and replayed.
In a statement, co-founder of InfiVention Technologies (the creators of Square Off) Aatur Mehta said: “Several prototypes, many exhibitions, exhaustive feedback and numerous nights have gone into simplifying the design of Square Off,
“Finally, we have arrived at a spectacular board, coded in such a fashion that the pieces don’t collide when they move automatically.”
