Alien Blackout is a new mobile game starring Isolation’s Amanda Ripley
Anew Alien game is coming to mobile featuring the star of 2014’s acclaimed Alien: Isolation.
Amanda Ripley, daughter of Sigourney Weaver’s iconic movie hero Ellen Ripley, will return in Alien: Blackout, a horror game that has you attempting to survive aboard a xenomorph-stalked Weyland-Yutani space station.
As Ripley, players will need to guide crew members to safety using a holographic map, cameras and motion trackers. It appears your choices will affect how the narrative unfolds in each playthrough.
Alien: Blackout, which is yet to have a concrete release date, is being developed by FoxNext Games, D3 Go!, and Rival Games. “Outsmart the perfect hunter by making perilous choices,” says D3 Go’s offical site for the game. “Players must rely on the damaged controls of the space station or risk sacrificing crew members to avoid deadly contact, permanently altering the outcome of the game.”
Quite where Alien: Blackout sits in relation to Alien: Isolation remains to be seen, be it sequel or prequel. Isolation, Creative Assembly’s brilliant console survival horror, is recognised as one of the scariest video games ever made. As she goes in search of her missing mother, you played as Amanda Ripley in first-person as a xenomorph stalks the corridors and air vents of the Sevastapol space station.
Alien: Blackout, but not its platform, heavily rumoured before last year’s Game Awards show, there may be some disappointment as its emergence as a mobile game. However, we now know that Blackout isn’t the only new Alien game in development, with Cold Iron Studios confirmed to be working on a console and PC shooter based on the famous franchise. It was thought that Blackout was that game before the announcement of the mobile title.
It also would appear that Alien: Blackout won’t be the only continuation of Amanda Ripley’s story, with the official Alien Twitteraccount teasing the character with the hashtag ReadPlayWatch. There has already been a graphic novel series, Aliens: Resistance, confirmed to star Ripley as following the events of Isolation. If ‘Play’ is referring to Blackout, what the ‘Watch’ part of the equation is remains to be seen.
