Alleged iPhone 16 Pro Max CAD Model Shows Significantly Longer Display

Earlier this month, display industry analyst Ross Young revealed that Apple will debut larger 6.3 and 6.9-inch display sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max next year. He also claimed that Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models will retain the same 6.1 and 6.7-inch display sizes currently found on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, which will also be used on this year’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
If Young’s prediction is correct, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max displays will be the largest screens that Apple has introduced to date on each of those models.
Now what is said to be a CAD model of the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max (which the render labels as “iPhone 16 Ultra”) was recently shared with 9to5Mac by Sonny Dickson and was used to create renderings that give us a good idea of just how much larger the largest iPhone 16 model could be when compared to this year’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The rendering shows an iPhone 16 Pro Max that will boast a significantly larger vertical dimension than its horizontal measurement when compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. According to the render, the iPhone 16 Pro Max handset’s length will increase by around 5 mm to ~165.0 mm while the device’s width appears to increase by only about 0.5 mm to ~77.2 mm.
iPhone 16 Camera Layout to Change
That wasn’t the only iPhone 16-related news for today, as Twitter account @URedditor tweeted information about the lower-end iPhone 16 model’s rear camera lens arrangement, which will allegedly revert back to a vertical layout. The lens arrangement will likely be used on the iPhone 16 Plus model as well.
A vertical rear camera lens arrangement was last used for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini. In 2021, Apple switched things up to a diagonally-arranged rear camera lens layout with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini and continued to use the same layout on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus models.
Apple is widely expected to do the same with its upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, which will debut later this year.
However, @URedditor said the lens layout change on the iPhone 16 will make the devices “instantly recognizable” as the latest iPhone models. Other new design features such as the Dynamic Island and a USB-C port will also be new model indicators.
When Apple launched the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini with the diagonal lens layout, Apple said that “a redesigned rear camera layout with diagonally arranged lenses enables the advanced dual-camera system.” Indeed, Apple may have figured out a way to make the dual-camera system components work within a vertical orientation again.
